Shihan Dana Abbott
Shihan Dana Abbott returned to the United States to start Samurai Sports and to share his knowledge regarding the ways of the Japanese sword in the samurai manner after a quarter century of extensive study including 14 years in Yokohama, Japan.
After graduating from Arizona State University, Shihan Dana Abbott became a world traveler and adventurer ending up in Japan where he began his kendo/martial arts studies at Nihon Taikiu daigaku. In addition, Shihan Dana Abbott's bladed weaponry experience is extensive and well polished. He has taught and conducted seminars in over 30 countries. Also, he is honored to hold the esteemed rank of Shihan 7th Dan, in the sword art of Goshindo, obtained at the Hombu Dojo in Yokohama, Japan.
Shihan Dana Abbott was honored to be appointed to the position of Kokusai Bucho (International Director) for the All Japan Goshindo Renmei and the International Sports Chanbara Association, which has more than 220,000 members worldwide.

Shihan Abbott in his own easily taught method is able to instruct in a clear, concise, Zen-like fashion geared for both beginner and experienced alike. This has proved to be quite successful for him instructing the "spirit of the thing" throughout the United States.

What does it mean to be a member of the Black Belt Hall of Fame?
The Black Belt Hall of Fame is unquestionably the highest public accolade that can be bestowed upon a martial artist.
When it was first introduced in 1968, the Black Belt Hall of Fame was the only Martial Arts Hall of Fame around, others have surfaced since then, of course, but Black Belt’s has remained as the leader in terms of stature, integrity and significance.
Since its inception nearly 40 years ago, The Black Belt Hall of Fame has honored more than 200 gifted and devoted individuals for their artistry, technical skill, competitive achievement and ambassadorial longevity.
Alumni of this prestigious and exclusive club have toiled for years to preserve and pass along the history, techniques, and nuances of their particular arts.
The few who are selected each year for the Hall of Fame are chosen for their positive impact, not only on the martial arts community, but on the world at large.
Shihan Dana Abbott was inducted into the Black Belt Magazine Hall of Fame, Weapons Instructor (2004).
A Message from Dana Abbott
Behind each and every great person there has always been a mentor, teacher or instructor to guide them on their lives' path. This is very much the case with the Japanese and the Samurai mind set.
As your teacher I can mold you both in mind and body. Practical application and physical training provided by me will strengthen your mindset. I have spent a good portion of my life in the education of martial arts in Japan. That instruction allowed me to learn from the very best of Japanese masters. These masters physically practiced side-by-side with their students, as I shall with you.
Let me be your mentor and I will instill in you proficiency with the sword whether it is steel, wood, or bamboo. It will be my job to make sure you are on the right path and continue so. Even if you are a novice or have been practicing the sword for years it will be my endeavor to ensure your posture, presence and demeanor become strong and your mind and body function together.
During my presentations, courses and teachings I will demonstrate the sword through hands on experience. You will duplicate the techniques that you observe and learn. We will then take your best attributes and polish them while correcting any of your weak areas. Upon completion of my course you will have gained the confidence and sword proficiency you seek.
